The Airport Authority of India (AAI) in association with Alliance Air, recently launched a 42-seater flight service between Agra and Jaipur. The move has potential to boost tourist footfalls in both cities as the airfare is cheaper than the Agra-Jaipur Shatabdi train fare. The flight takes just 50 minutes to cover the distance of 250km between the two cities whereas Shatabdi train takes nearly four hours. “To promote cheaper air travel under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Air India will now operate turboprop ATR aircraft three days in week between the two tourist destination cities,” Agra airport director Kusum Das said.
The airport in Sindhudurg will provide better connectivity to the Konkan region of Maharashtra, parts of Goa, north Karnataka and western Maharashtra. By introducing air connectivity to this region, air travel will be more affordable for the common man, in addition to boosting the tourism in the region.
